Baby Safe Homemade Diaper Rash Cream
Directions:
1.) Start with the oil and the dried flowers in a double boiler, bring to a simmer and let go for 30 minutes on low heat. Strain out the flowers (you might need to add a couple extra tablespoons of oil when the mixture is simmering to maintain the 1/4 cup oil)
2.) Add the infused oil back into the double boiler, add the beeswax pellets and heat on medium low heat until all the beeswax is melted.
3.) Remove from heat (transfer to a bowl if you need, or a measuring glass) and add in the bentonite clay, mix well. If you are adding essential oils (no oils for children under 6 months) then add the oils into the oil/beeswax mix before adding the clay. Use 2-5 drops for children under 1 and 6-12 drops for children over 1 of essential oil.
4.) Add the mixture to the container (like a glass jar) that you will be storing the cream in and allow to cool. It should be paste like but hold shape. The clay will make it a dull grayish color, this is normal.
Thoughts:
This cream is great for mild diaper rashes and irritation. It is cloth diaper safe and 100% natural. You should use within 3 months, but I have personally kept it for longer and it keeps 6 months to a year (depending on how fresh your shea butter and carrier oil is) if you want a more firm cream, add more beeswax. I don’t recommend adding less, this can ruin the integrity of the recipe. If you chose to use essential oils in the cream do not use on babies under 6 months, do not use daily and use a high quality essential oil like Plant Therapy. Apply cream to irritated areas avoiding sensitive mucus membranes. This is a great home made cream that works wonders, and with the addition of the dried flowers it provides a wonderful soothing and healing touch.
