Young Living kids and babies line overview

As a certified aromatherapist I will be overviewing the Young Living kids and baby line and giving my honest opinion on how safe I feel these oils are. Do they match the recommendations and guidelines given by the company? Are they using oils that are safe for children and even babies? They don’t have a large line of oils specifically for children and only one oil that is marketed specifically for babies. So definitely as large as other oil companies when it comes to the kids line. But lets dive in and see.

  • Geneyus: Caprylic/capric triglyceride, Boswellia sacra (Sacred Frankincense) oil, Callitris intratropica (Blue cypress) wood oil, Cedrus atlantica (Cedarwood) bark oil, Picea pungens (Idaho Blue spruce) branch/leaf/wood oil, Bursera graveolens (Palo santo) wood oil, Melissa officinalis (Melissa) leaf oil, Picea mariana (Northern Lights Black spruce) leaf oil, Prunus amygdalus dulcis (Sweet almond) oil, Citrus aurantium bergamia (Bergamot) peel oil, Commiphora myrrha (Myrrh) oil, Vetiveria zizanoides (Vetiver) root oil, Pelargonium graveolens (Geranium) flower oil, Santalum paniculatum (Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood) wood oil, Cananga odorata (Ylang ylang) flower oil, Hyssopus officinalis (Hyssop) leaf oil, Coriandrum sativum (Coriander) seed oil, Rosa damascena (Rose) flower oil Premium essential oil

This oils seems to check out but here is my issue, there are 2 types of Hyssop essential oils, one is safe for all ages and one should never be used. They do not list the CT type to let us know which type this oil is. To be quite honest here I could ask, and I probably will, but I shouldn’t have to ask. They should list that, and you should not have to contact customer service just to find out what CT type the oil is. SO this could be a great oil, or a very bad oil. I honestly have no clue.

  • Brain power: Santalum album (Sacred Sandalwood) wood oil, Cedrus atlantica (Cedarwood) bark oil, Boswellia carterii (Frankincense) oil, Melissa officinalis (Melissa) leaf oil, Callitris intratropica (Blue cypress) wood oil, Lavandula angustifolia (Lavender) oil, Helichrysum italicum (Helichrysum) flower oil Premium essential oil

I actually quite like this one, it’s got some great kid safe oils. I do not see any age recommendations anywhere however so I can’t be sure the age range they intended this for. I would say this is a good oil for school age children though, seeing as it’s a focus oil there isn’t a whole lot of reason to use with toddlers. But it should be safe to diffuse around toddlers anyways.

  • Owie: Caprylic/capric triglyceride, Abies balsamea (Balsam fir) needle oil, Melaleuca alternifolia (Tea tree) leaf oil, Helichrysum italicum flower oil, Canarium luzonicum (Elemi) gum oil, Cistus ladanifer (Cistus) oil, Chamaecyparis obtusa (Hinoki) oil, Eugenia caryophyllus (Clove) bud oil Premium essential oil

I don’t hate this one but I don’t particularly like it either. It comes prediluted, but no where does it say the dilution. The age limit is at least 2-12 so that’s good. With the addition of clove it is not safe topically 2 and under. There are just a lot of oils I wouldn’t choose for an owie oil in this blend. Not to mention the directions say to rub on the tummy, which don’t make sense to the name or the fact that they already have a tummy blend. And with the recommendation to use without further dilution especially with clove, you risk a reaction in your child. Not something I would use, although TECHNICALLY it can be considered safe. I don’t trust it.

  • Sleepyize: Caprylic/capric triglyceride, Lavandula angustifolia (Lavender) oil, Pelargonium graveolens (Geranium) flower oil, Anthemis nobilis (Roman chamomile) flower oil, Citrus reticulata (Tangerine) peel oil, Citrus aurantium bergamia (Bergamot) peel oil, Boswellia sacra (Sacred Frankincense™) oil, Valeriana officinalis (Valerian) root oil, Ruta graveolens (Rue) oil Premium essential oil

This one is kid safe for sure, there isn’t anything wrong with the oils. I still wouldn’t use it for sleep however, since it contains geranium and that can be stimulating. If you are using this oil for bedtime and wondering why your little one seems to get worked up that might be why. Not something I would turn to for bedtime.

  • SniffleEase: Caprylic/capric triglyceride, Eucalyptus bicostata (Eucalyptus blue) oil, Bursera graveolens (Palo santo) wood oil, Lavandula angustifolia (Lavender) oil, Hyptis suaveolens (Dorado azul) seed oil, Cinnamomum camphora (Camphor) leaf oil, Eucalyptus globulus leaf/twig oil, Myrtus communis (Myrtle) oil, Organum majorana (Marjoram) leaf oil, Pinus sylvestris (Pine) leaf oil, Eucalyptus radiata leaf oil, Eucalyptus citriodora oil, Cupressus sempervirens (Cypress) leaf/nut/stem oil, Picea mariana (Black spruce) leaf oil, Mentha piperita (Peppermint) oil Premium essential oil

This one is a hard no from me, with 2 different species of eucalyptus and peppermint this is definitely not safe for children under 10. Peppermint shouldn’t be used with kids under 6 and eucalyptus shouldn’t be used with children under 10. You risk causing more severe breathing problems in your child if you use this. Spearmint and Tea Tree or any number of the Fir essential oils would be a much better option.

  • Tummygize: Caprylic/capric triglyceride, Mentha spicata (Spearmint) leaf extract, Mentha piperita (Peppermint) oil, Citrus reticulata (Tangerine) peel oil, Pimpinella anisum (Anise) seed oil, Foeniculum vulgare (Fennel) oil, Elettaria cardamomum (Cardamom) seed oil, Zingiber officinale (Ginger) root oil Premium essential oil

Absolutely not, with the addition of Anise and Fennel this oil blend isn’t even safe for adults. Do not ever use this on your child. These are oils that should never be used. It is deplorable to even include these, let alone claim they are safe.

  • Seedlings calm: Lavandula angustifolia (Lavender) essential oil, Caprylic/capric triglyceride (Coconut oil), Coriandrum sativum (Coriander) essential oil, Citrus aurantium bergamia (Bergamot) essential oil, Cananga odorata (Ylang Ylang) essential oil, Pelargonium graveolens (Geranium) essential oil Premium essential oil

No on this one as well, this is an oil designed for babies and they include Ylang Ylang which isn’t safe topically under 2. On top of that it’s prediluted but again, no word on the dilution rate. You really shouldn’t diffuse a prediluted oil and this isn’t safe topically for babies. Im disappointed in this one honestly.

  • Kidpower: Caprylic/capric triglyceride, Citrus sinensis (Orange) peel oil, Vanilla oleoresin extract, Picea mariana (Black spruce) leaf oil, Cinnamomum camphora (Camphor) wood oil, Tanacetum annuum (Blue tansy) flower oil, Boswellia carterii (Frankincense) oil, Pelargonium graveolens (Geranium) flower oil Premium essential oil

This one would had been fine except for the camphor, which is not recommended for anyone to use. I also don’t really know what Caprylic/capric triglyceride even is but it’s not an essential oil. I’m not sure why it’s in the mix, let alone the first ingredient. (so upon a google search it is some kind of glycerine so it’s definitely diluted but they do not say that and even encourage diffusion which would definitely kill a diffuser over time) Overall I am not impressed with this oil, it seemed good at first but it was pretty bad upon further inspection.

Out of 8 oils, 2 oils are actually kid safe. And of those 2 oils, 1 I actually liked. But 6 oils on this list are either unconfirmed or just absolutely not safe and contain toxic oils. Young Living never answered my questions on which type of hyssop they use either. All in all I am not impressed and I like this kids line the least. They also predilute a lot, making it seem safe but you don’t know the dilution. On top of that diffusing a prediluted oil can cause diffuser issues. With oils like cinnamon and clove you also need to know the dilution to know they are surpassing the topical max. You could seriously irritate your Childs skin if you apply these oils as is-which young living encourages a lot. Overall, it’s a not from me. I would honestly find another line for your child, these are not looking good and are probably the worse I have reviewed yet. Definitely not kid safe.

Also I would like to point out that brain power isn’t even a kid oil, which was my mistake, but it was actually the only one I liked and felt was actually kid safe/good for it’s targeted use. So even though I messed that one up I am keeping it because then at least there is a good safe option for school age children. And that concludes my thoughts on Young Livings kid line, I am not impressed.
