Why I decided to get into Aromatherapy

I’ve been into essential oils for a few years now, however not so much to the level that I am at right now. I thought they were fun and useful, but I was still a bit of a skeptic of how they worked. They smelled nice sure, but I was still reaching for the bottle of ibuprofen whenever a headache reared its ugly head. But once I got pregnant I wanted more natural ways to prevent and help daily issues that I struggled with. However, my practices with essential oils were unsafe and uneducated. I didn’t bother to look anything up or be safe in how I was using my oils. I would use them undiluted or in large quantities, ignoring that there are safety measures to be taken. This resulted in some displeasure with the oils  I was using, and while I was getting some results in my daily aches I was still a bit of a skeptic.

When my babe was born, I was pretty much at a middle ground with oils. I loved them, but I was still trying to fix all my issues with a ton of medication. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but I wanted to find a more natural and holistic approach to small things that ailed us daily. At the same time, I had several friends (actually too many to count) join some of the larger name oil companies and sell for them. I began to notice some inconsistencies with what they were telling people was okay. So I began to look into things myself. I found that some of the recommendations were very incorrect, some dilution rates were astronomical, and the advice was just plain bad at times. Even dangerous! But I was uneducated, and honestly, as much as I wanted I couldn’t google everything and call it good. Especially since the inconsistencies and bad advice spanned across many platforms, social media, and blogs.

So to get my feet wet I decided to take some aromatherapy classes. Nothing fancy, just some “just so you know” or “for your knowledge” classes. They offered somewhat of a formal training, however without any certification, at a fairly affordable price. Which is a great start if you are unsure of something or just want the knowledge. From there my love and understanding of oils grew and I began to realize just how incorrect a lot of people are in their essential oil knowledge. This isn’t to shame anyone or to point fingers. This is simply a result of improper resources available to people. For some reason, you can get 100 different opinions on a singular oil, and there are a lot of oils!

With that, I decided that I could not be that person telling people how to properly use oils without any form of degree or certification. I also wanted to be well educated myself, to know how to properly utilize these amazing tools, and also to be able to help people as well. I decided to pay for a real certification course through Aroma Hut. I settled on a level 1 aromatherapy course which is 100 hours and I am barely scratching the surface right now. I love it, I am learning so much and I am finding out how to safely use oils and all the precautions that come with using oils. I am looking forward to learning even more and utilizing my certification to help others in their oily journey too.

With my journey into aromatherapy, I started my oily Instagram as well, to document and share all that I learned with others. I found the most amazing community of like-minded individuals and I love every moment of it. I continue to learn and grow in my oily journey and share on my Instagram; so that it can benefit others and help educate. I want to be able to be able to share all that I learn and help educate and guide others in their oily journeys as well.

As always, if you have any questions, about oils or otherwise in general I am always here to help to the best of my ability!

What started your essential oil journey? Were you skeptical like I was or just looking for more natural ways to combat daily ailments?
